In 1854 the first ever game took place at our Sandown Lane ground. The magnificent book written for the club's 150th anniversary by Dave Goodall details much of this. Pictorially the first team photo we have is from 1913 - if you look carefully you can see the sandstone wall in the background. In 170 years the club has become an inclusive community embracing organisation, registered as a charitable incorporated organisation. Throughout this whole time the club have been a tenant at their ground hiring the cricket field and 4 small rooms for changing and entertainment. Our landlord is changing their approach to our tenancy - we either, in effect, increase our rent from 15% to 50% of our turnover or or we generate £200k to gain total control of our future.
We have set ourselves 18 months to secure this funding and ensure cricket remains in Wavertree for as long as the community want it.

What do parents say about us?
‘’......my son who plays cricket for Wavertree Cricket Club was always a shy boy who struggled for confidence. He has dyslexia and struggled in school at an early age due to this. He first started cricket at the age of 7 where he would not leave my side and I had to join in with him. All the coaches have always been amazing with him, not just in helping him develop as a player but as a person. He is proud to be a part of Wavertree Cricket Club. He loves every training session and match he goes to. He even wants to become a coach. ..... I believe that anyone who has/will be fortunate to be part of the club, will only benefit in a positive way.’’
'‘When we were fallen on hard times experiencing a period of great challenges especially financially WCC supported and helped us massively. We couldn’t be what we are today without your support!!! WCC made a weighty and substantial difference in x and y’s life. The long-lasting experience with WCC give them the opportunity to have fun, to feel included in a diverse range of people from all walks of life and nevertheless to have a social connection that decrease depression and loneliness in their lives. I don’t have enough words to express what their support means, a huge thanks to all at WCC and members for being a beacon in our lives!’'
‘'Through the years of myself being at Wavertree the Club has been there for me - throughout the loss of my dad or "becoming an adult" and having children - it has always been a constant - with friends I have made along the way and seeing the friendships developing of my children and knowing the care and guidance they receive shows how much of an impact Wavertree has in people's lives - especially mine and to see the growth of the club and support it gives to all makes me proud to be part of the Wavertree family.’'
What do local schools say about us?
''Wavertree Cricket Club is an integral part of our community. We have had links with the club for many years and as the PE and sport leader for the school I can, hand on heart, say that they are one of the best community clubs I have had the pleasure to be associated with. The club offers cricket to the very young and the not so young. Schools are given opportunities to play in competitions at the club for little or no charge. Our children are encouraged to go to the club and join as junior members and I know that the chairman’s philanthropy towards children who cannot afford membership subs means that a lack of money will not stop them playing cricket. They are a valued part of our community, and they take their message to schools and groups in the community to develop relationships. Wavertree CC have brought their visually impaired team to our school and have coached our children in sessions for nominal fees.''
